A 1951 ranch, remade inside and out.

The Hemlock home: a 1951 daylight ranch in Hillsboro, remodeled top to bottom, inside and out. A new roof, fresh paint and landscaping, an open kitchen, a vaulted primary suite, rebuilt baths, and a finished daylight basement across roughly 3,200 square feet.

The Hemlock Project

One 1951 ranch, reimagined from the curb to the basement.

The Hemlock home is a 1951 ranch on Hillsboro. The brief was a true whole-home remodel: touch every room, inside and out, without losing the mid-century bones.

Outside, the house got a new black roof, white-painted brick, black-framed windows, and fully refreshed landscaping. Inside, we opened the kitchen, re-leveled and re-floored the living spaces in white oak, turned a dark paneled den into a vaulted primary suite, and rebuilt the baths in marble, slate, and subway tile.

Across roughly 3,200 square feet, almost nothing was left untouched. The before-and-after speaks for itself. We are booking 2026 whole-home remodels now for homeowners who want the same.

Why This Matters

A whole-home remodel is not five separate projects. Done as one plan, the new roofline, the open kitchen, and the vaulted primary suite all speak the same language. That coherence, inside and out, is what turns a dated 1951 ranch into a home that reads as new.

Why It Pays Off

A whole-home remodel is the highest-leverage move for an older Portland home. You keep the lot, the trees, and the location, and bring every room up to how you live now. The before-and-after is the proof.

What the Remodel Included

What it takes to touch every room.

A whole-home remodel is only as good as the systems and finishes behind the walls. Here is what went into the Hemlock ranch, inside and out.

I

New roof & exterior

A new black roof, white-painted brick, and refreshed siding and trim gave the 1951 ranch a clean modern face.

II

Black-framed windows

Original windows swapped for black-framed units throughout, tying the exterior and interiors together.

III

Open kitchen & island

A closed wood kitchen opened into a white kitchen with a black island, quartz tops, and skylights.

IV

Vaulted primary suite

A dark paneled den reframed and finished into a bright, vaulted primary bedroom.

V

Rebuilt baths

The baths were gutted and rebuilt in white subway tile, marble-top vanities, slate floors, and black fixtures.

VI

Floors, basement & grounds

Re-leveled white-oak floors, a finished basement family room, and fully replanted landscaping.
