The Whitepine home is a 1951 ranch on SW Portland's West Slope. The brief was a true whole-home remodel: touch every room, inside and out, without losing the mid-century bones.
Outside, the house got a new black roof, white-painted brick, black-framed windows, and fully refreshed landscaping. Inside, we opened the kitchen, re-leveled and re-floored the living spaces in white oak, turned a dark paneled den into a vaulted primary suite, and rebuilt the baths in marble, slate, and subway tile.

The most dramatic change is the one from the street. A new black roof, white-painted brick, black-framed windows, and fully replanted grounds gave the 1951 ranch a clean, modern face without losing its shape.
The dated wood kitchen came out for an open, light-filled room: white cabinetry, a black island with quartz tops, skylights, a pro range with a custom hood, and new white-oak floors that run into the dining space.
We pulled the carpet and tile, re-leveled a sloped floor, and ran white-oak hardwood through the main living spaces. The fireplace was refined and the windows swapped to black frames for a cleaner, brighter room.
The biggest interior move: a heavy wood-paneled den became a bright, vaulted primary bedroom with a whitewashed brick fireplace and black-framed windows, paired with a rebuilt primary bath in marble, slate, and subway tile.
The remodel did not stop at the headline rooms. Secondary bedrooms and a study were brightened and re-floored, and the unfinished basement became a carpeted family room, so every level of the house earns its keep.
